Works for Me Wednesday: Do It Yourself Jewelry Organizer

I had a nice long three day weekend for Christmas and was able to work on a little organizing project – check it out!
I was storing all my costume jewelry in my top nightstand drawer in a couple of plastic organizers. While this method works great, it’s just not for me. If I don’t see it, I don’t wear it.
So I came up with a solution: I used a cork message board that was currently not in use (this metal message board would work great for a more modern look), stuck plain short metal sewing pins into it, and hung it on the side of my bathroom cabinet where I get ready for work in the mornings. The top two rows are for matching necklace and earring sets. Below are random earrings and pins. The hook on the side is for necklaces with no matching earrings, and the peg rack underneath (still waiting for my daughter to find two of the pegs) holds bracelets and watches. I even hooked a couple of pins over the nails on the top to hide them!

Tuesday Tip: Avoid Impulse Buys

If you’re like me, you are a sucker for that feel-good impulse buy item when you’re out shopping.
Here is a great tip to help you avoid those impulse purchases: Keep a wish list in your purse or wallet. When you’re tempted to buy something you want but don’t need, add it to the list. Wait a few days and then go over your list. Once the “impulse” is gone, you can decide if you truly need, love, or have-to-have any of the things on your list. If so, treat yourself! If not, throw your list away and congratulate yourself! You just prevented clutter and saved money!
