Tips For Maximizing Closet Space with a Shoe Bench
August 6, 2012
Maximizing your closet space can be quite a difficult proposition, particularly when you have a home that your family has slightly outgrown. When you have children sharing closets and rooms, things tend to get a little bit messy. Add in parents sharing some spaces, and you have a recipe for disorder.
There are a few things you can do to free up some space in your closets and get the most out of what little you may have available. By adding some storage accessories to your home, you will find that you can accommodate more of your stuff than you ever expected.
In the closet, adding shelf dividers to a long shelf is the perfect way to get the most out of it. These dividers are usually made from steel or other sturdy metal, and slide onto most shelves. With these shelf accessories, you can use each “bin” that is created by the divider to separate items, making them organized and easy to find.
Outside the closet, adding a shoe rack is a great way to clear up closet space. One of the biggest offenders of closet clutter is our shoes. When you have four or five people sharing one closet, with all their shoes piled in there that is a lot of space lost.
The Keystone Shoe Bench is a great way to get shoes out of the closet and located in one convenient, easy to find location. The bench has an attractive appearance, so it is a good accessory for the entryway, and has a bench seat, perfect for putting on your shoes on the way out.
The last organizational solution for the closet is a hanging organizer. These are relatively inexpensive and provide hanging “drawers” for storing everyday items. Because they face the front of the closet and have open fronts, it is easy to find what is stored within them.
With all of these accessories, you and your family can enjoy a more organized closet. All of these solutions are relatively inexpensive and easy-to-do.
Dorm Organization Tips
July 31, 2012
Dorm life is a rite of passage for most students and while it involves wonderful experiences like making new friends and gaining independence as an adult, it also involves learning to live organized. Anyone who lived in a dorm their first year of college can understand the space-issues I am talking about. And most teenagers don’t have a knack for organizing or keeping a tidy space (I know because I was one). It is okay if organizing does not come naturally, it’s just one of those things you have to learn as a young adult, like paying your own bills or cooking meals for yourself.
Shoes can be especially tricky to organize, especially in compact living spaces. When my friend’s daughter moved into the dorm last year, I encouraged her to get a 50 pair stacking metal and plastic shoe rack. Now, she herself did not own 50 pairs of shoes, but the shoe storage rack was big enough to house both hers and her roommate’s shoes. The roommate was especially grateful for this! Because it stands at four and a half feet tall, the metal shoe rack does not take up a lot of space which is important in dorm rooms.
If that particular shoe rack does not work for you or someone you know who’s moving into a dorm this fall, then I would consider getting a stacking shoe rack like a bamboo shoe rack which comes in a set of 2. This too is a space saving shoe rack because it can be stacked vertically to take up less floor space in the room or in the closet. And if you only need one of the shoeracks, buy it with your roommate and split the pair up between the two of you. This is also an economical way to go about it, which is helpful for any starving student!
Creating an Inviting Waiting Room for Your Business
July 31, 2012
Creating an inviting waiting room at the office requires a few basics so visitors feel welcome. Don’t let guests get bored while sitting in uncomfortable chairs. Create a space that makes a good first impression by considering providing anything from reading material to water for guests to enjoy while they wait. By choosing the right seating and storage items any wait can go by in a flash.
Comfortable and stylish seating is a must for the waiting room. Look for chairs that provide a plush place to sit and have a design that works well with the rest of the office decor. Consider a chair upholstered in leather with a metal frame for a modern, sleek look. For a more traditional space consider something with classic details like a warm, wood frame.
Keep any seating area organized with a wall-mounted magazine rack. Magazine racks with several different compartments make magazines easy to browse, and it create a cleaner look than storing them on a table. The wall mounted design is a great space saver, and some can also be used for pamphlets.
Another wall mounted storage accessory that everyone will appreciate is a coat rack. This way people have a place to leave their jackets when they walk in the door. For a larger waiting room you can even add a free standing coat rack.
For an added complimentary touch put out a water dispenser and some plastic cups so visitors can grab a drink while they wait. Don’t forget to add a small trash can for when guests are done with their drink. Add a small table and you’re waiting area is ready to receive visitors. By adding a few thoughtful touches any office can make a great first impression.
