Turn Your Clutter Into Cash!

bookshelfMost Americans accumulate books, CDs, and DVDs, but many adults with ADD are plagued by the endless clutter that these items create.

Books on the shelves, in the closets and in the basement that were (maybe) read once and forgotten about. CDs in the rack, in the car and under the couch that make you cringe when you look at them because you can’t believe you actually listened to that music at one time. And DVDs that you forgot you even owned!

These items clutter your home, collect dust, and annoy you…yet you can’t seem to throw them out! Maybe you just need a good reason to get rid of them. How about cash?

Did you know that there are online businesses that will purchase your old books, CDs, and DVDs? And it’s really easy, too!

The following are resources I share with my ADD-clutterbug clients to help them get motivated about clutter-busting.

  • To make money on your old books, visit TextBooksRUs.com. Gather up all those old books (they need not be textbooks) and enter their ISBNs on the website. (An ISBN is a numeric code located above the bar code.) The site will tell you which books they will accept and how much they are offering you. You then print out a prepaid shipping label, box up your books, and deliver them to the post office. In my experience, there are very few books that they don’t accept.
  • To make money on your old CDs and DVDs, visit SecondSpin.com. The process is similar: look up the CDs and DVDs by name or UPC to see what is accepted and how much they are offering you. Choose a payment method, pack up your stuff, and send it off. Most CDs won’t sell for much, but if you have a lot of stuff to get rid of, it adds up! Unlike TextBooksRUs, SecondSpin doesn’t pay for shipping, but sending your package “media mail” won’t cost much.

So whether or not you have adult ADD, do yourself a favor and get paid to get rid of your clutter!

    Great idea, Jennifer!

I bought an mp3 player so I could consolidate all my music into one place and sold a lot of my cd’s at a local store. It’s a relief having them gone!
