Peace of Mind: Lesson Learned

hectisI realized something today…
You know on Friday morning (or sometimes Wednesday or Thursday even) when it’s been a long week and you can’t quite get yourself out of bed? I had one of those days today. Big time.
Life has been incredibly hectic. I find myself going from 5:45 in the morning to about 9 at night. Full time job, family, errands, groceries, cooking, way too many pets.
I’m sure you moms out there can relate.
This morning I lay in bed hitting the snooze button for an hour! It just felt so good to lay all warm and snuggly under the covers on a rainy morning when I’ve been so busy!
In giving myself that extra 45 minutes of relaxation, though, I blew my whole morning! I didn’t have time for a shower and I had to run around like a crazy person to get my youngest up for school and get out the door on time. By the time I left I was sweating off my makeup!
I got myself running so fast that I was almost hit by a truck on my way to work for lack of a focused mind! But instead I was hit with this: 45 extra minutes of snooze time in the morning is not worth getting off to a hectic start to an already hectic day. Much more valuable to me is a peaceful morning; I am much more focused and able to handle my day with a good attitude.
Lesson learned.

I have one toddler, one pet, a 10-11 bedtime, and about a 20 minutes drive to work in the mornings…yet I find myself doing the same. In the past, I woudl set my alarm at 6:30 am needing to be out the door by 7:15. Well, to avoid oversleeping (or hitting that snooze button one too many times), I now set my alram at 6:15, so if (or shoudl I say when) i oversleep, i am not as late as usual.

Yeah – it’s hard to remember those dang lessons when the snooze isgoing off and you’re drunk with exhaustion! I try to give myself a little reward – “get up now and later you can have a Starbucks.”
We have to pamper ourselves (especially us moms), a little bit goes a long way!
Hope you get sleep this weekend 🙂

You said it sister! This young mom with a young son is right there with ya. I can’t remember the last time I slept in….. maybe I will get a chance, in oh say twenty years or so 🙂

Sorry I didn’t get these comments posted till today – I was busy sleeping and being incredibly lazy! It was wonderful, but back to reality. Today I’m cleaning bathrooms.
    🙂
I like the idea of pampering ourselves with a treat if we get up on time. I’ll have to think of something good enough to get out of bed for!
I’m glad I’m not alone in the craziness!

I never have any extra time the morning. I have a new baby on the way and I’m thinking WOW! life will be so much more hectic in the morning, not to mention the lack of sleep from late night feeding, but all in all it s worth it.
