Fall Organizing Tips

Autumn-harvestAutumn officially began a week ago. For most homeowners, this signals a shift from indoor organizing to outdoor organizing. Time to think about storage for garden supplies, grills, and patio furniture.

And along with the inevitable seasonal wardrobe change which will soon take place, the garage is a great place to start.

Wall shelves and peg board as well as slatwall panels will give you the most bang for your buck as far as garage storage space. And don’t forget to think vertical! There are many kinds of ceiling racks available, some of which work on a pulley system to make loading and unloading without a ladder possible!

Clear boxes and bins make for great storage. They keep moisture out while letting you see in. Bin organizers are a great way to store more that just a few bins at a time while still keeping each easily accessible no stacking!

Here are some tips for organizing some of your outdoor stuff:

** Organizing your tools and other outdoor items into seasonal categories to make them easy to find. Magnetic knife holders make great tool storage!

** Put summer tools into containers while arranging fall and winter tools on open shelves and in easy-to-reach places.

** Dipping, or even storing, metal garden tools in a mixture of motor oil and sand serves to clean and lubricate them.

** Don’t leave hoses outside if you are in an area that gets below freezing. Make sure to empty all the water from hoses and to store them in the garage.

** Cover grills left outdoors. If you wheel a grill into the garage, then make sure to leave propane tanks covered outside since they pose a severe flammability risk.

** Keep firewood covered in a sheltered area outdoors. Just make sure to keep a space between the wood stack and the outside wall of your home to prevent possible termite or insect damage to your house.

What fabulous ideas! I also suggest making sure there’s a clear path to get to all of the needed items you’ll need for Fall/Winter. Move any boxes that might be in the way to easily access things you’ll need for the new season.
