5 Easy Tips for Organizing Your Media

CouchBeing the organized mom that I am we have to have our media collection organized and simple to use.
Universal Remote – When the babysitter comes over, does it take you twenty minutes to explain how to turn everything on? The best universal remote that I have found to get your remote clutter in order is Logitech’s Harmony Remote. Simplicity is the best thing about the Harmony Remote. You program it with your computer!
System Selector – When we first moved to Utah, we stayed at my sister’s house. She had to unplug the DVD player to use the Gamecube, and vice versa! Instead of the constant unplugging and re-plugging, use a system selector. There are many different types of system selectors, so make sure you get one with the best connections for your systems.
Storage – The unpardonable sin in my house is to have a CD or DVD out of its case. DO NOT place your CD’s or DVD’s in a mass storage case. Just the act of sliding the disc into the sleeve can scratch the disc! When you are done viewing or listening to a disc, take it out holding it on the edges and return it to its proper location. Also, organize your discs on the shelf for easy locating.
Keeping Track – We have an excel spreadsheet that has all of our DVD’s, CD’s, and Games listed. If anyone borrows something, we write their name next to the item to keep track of where it is going. This way we don’t end up losing any of our collection.
Update – Old VHS tapes should not be taking up space in your house, especially if you don’t even own a VCR! Go through your DVD’s too and if there are any that you have the original version and the special edition, get rid of the original version. There is no reason to keep both!
Ahhh… time to sit and watch a movie. Bye!

Delicious Library is a great program for keeping track of your DVDs, CDs, and books. It also lets you “rent” them out to people and will keep up with a return date.
    It’s only for Mac, though.
