Letting Go of Clutter is a Joy!

simple_flowersSometimes we need to step back and evaluate our spaces and see them with fresh eyes. Often we don’t see clutter until we are drowning in it.
Take a tour of your home and really look at everything. Find the joy and simplicity in everything you own (and do) and give yourself permission to let go of everything else.
I am really trying to simplify things as much as possible by making sure we are actually using and loving the stuff we own all of the time.
This past weekend we swapped beds in our girls’ rooms, which prompted a general re-arranging, over-hauling and purging of all our kids’ rooms.
It is just so freeing to have it all out of here. It’s all just stuff anyway. One of my favorite quotes is this one:

You never see a hearse pulling a uhaul!

How true that is! You can’t take it with you, so why are we carting it around and storing it up?
I read a wonderful post some time ago over at Walk Slowly, Live Wildly titled Stuff that was really inspiring. I couldn’t agree more:

When your home is organized and decluttered…you will be a different person. Your outlook on life changes. Situations that seemed out of control and chaotic now seem manageable. When you wake up and walk to the kitchen to make coffee and your counter-top is clean…your day just got that much easier.
The state of your home is in direct proportion to the state of your heart/mind. When you have piles of stuff all over your house, your spirit just gets bogged down with all of it whether you know it or not. When you don’t have to worry about moving your STUFF around, cleaning your STUFF, and storing your STUFF…you have a lot more time to spend doing things things that you love and spending time with your family and friends! And that’s what life is all about.

Amen!
